Obituary

Bonnie Colleen (Berg) Sturchio passed away on March 18, 2024 after a brief illness at Dozier House in Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 100. She was born on a beautiful dairy farm near Algoma, Wisconsin on July 6, 1923 to wonderful parents, Oscar and Ellen Berg, where she lived all of her early years.

She served in the United States Marine Corps in 1944 and 1945 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She met her husband, Gene Sturchio in the Corps and they were married on February 17, 1945.They later moved to Titusville, Florida where she worked in the bookkeeping department of the Tax Collectors Office.

When they later moved back to Wisconsin, she worked in the Kewaunee County University Extension Office as secretary to the Extension Agricultural Agent and the Extension Home Economist. In 1978, they returned to Florida and settled in Sopchoppy, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Women of Faith and Sopchoppy Homemakers

Bonnie was fortunate to be on the first Honor Flight to Washington DC out of Tallahassee; she was the only female veteran on the flight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ellen Berg; sister, Marvel Berg; brother, Owen Berg; husband, Gene Sturchio and granddaughter, Tracy Sturchio. She is survived by her four children, Gene (Chip) Sturchio of San Antonio, Texas and wife Frances, Patricia Sturchio of Chino Hils, California, Carmen Sturchio of Sopchoppy, Florida and Sharman Sturchio of Fayetteville, Arkansas and husband Rich King; sisters, Doris Beetz, Venice Gigstead, Marion Hafeman, Beverly Deprey and their families. Bonnie also has four grandchildren, Blake Sturchio, San Antonio, Texas, Gabrielle Sturchio, Portland, Oregon, Gordon DeVoss of Tallahassee, Florida and Nantahala DeVoss of Tallahassee, Florida; four great grandchildren, Brooke Sturchio, Blake Coy Brown, Haynes DeVoss and Ellis DeVoss.


A memorial service wil be held on March 28, 2024 at 11:00 at Sopchoppy United Methodist Church with Reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flower arrangements and memorial trees, all donations will be gratefully accepted to the Sopchoppy United Methodist Church or to the Wakulla County Public Library.
