Obituary

"And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and receive you unto myself;
that where I am, there you may be also."
St. John 14:3

Evelyn Kate Mays Mount was born November 7, 1954, in Monticello, Florida to the late Bernice Washington Mays and Johnny Mays. El, as she was lovingly called, grew up in the Mays Community where she resided until her demise.

Realizing the importance of the Word, when Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say unto Thee, except a man (mankind) be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God", Sister Evelyn Mays accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Salem African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of The Reverend Henderson Lawrence and served faithfully in various capacities.

Evelyn received her education in Jefferson County and graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1972. El was a paraprofessional in the Jefferson County Schools. She also worked as a cosmetologist for JCPenney's and Sears for many years.  Later in life, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant at Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Her labor of love demonstrated the joy she received from doing what she loved, serving others.

El always had a smile and cared for everyone.  She truly believed in serving others.  Those who she came in contact with loved her pleasant personality. El was a loving spirit and will be missed by all whose lives were touched by her.
