Evelyn Johnson was born on May 28, 1944, to the union of Rev. Spencer Johnson and Luvenia Williams Johnson in Jefferson County Florida.
Evelyn was the 12th child of Luvenia and 2nd child of Rev. Spencer Johnson; she received Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Elder Louis Burch.
Ms. Evelyn Johnson was educated in the Jefferson County school system, where she attended Howard Academy High School. Upon graduation in 1962, Evelyn set her sights on the Big Apple and moved to Long Island NY. Evelyn made New York her home for most of her adult life and career.
During her time in New York, Evelyn found love and married Eddie Thomas, she also had one child, a daughter, Deborah. In 1982, the now single Evelyn moved back to her hometown of Monticello Florida to care for her mother.
It was in Monticello, that Evelyn began her career as Clerk for the City of Monticello. She was the first Black Person to hold that role in the City's history and she held that position from 1986 – until her retirement in 2008.
Evelyn had a love for fashion, gardening, and animals, and she would lend a helping hand to those in need. She was a true force of nature, a trailblazer, and a lover of life. She fiercely loved her family and friends, and many will be left to cherish her memory and life.
Those left to cherish her memories are her, two sisters; Mary Grant of Hempstead, NY, and Earnestine Price of Benton Harbor, MI; her daughter, Deborah Johnson; four nieces, Beryl Koudsi of Elmont, NY, Olivia Grant of Brooklyn, NY, Katrina Price of Lansing, MI, and Christal Fergurson of South Carolina; five nephews, Kevin Mahoney of Baldwin, NY, Jerry Price of Benton Harbor, MI, Herbie Price of Michigan, Frederick Price of California, Tony Williams, and Jennings Wiliams Jr. of North Carolina. She also leaves behind grandnieces and nephews, and a host of other cousins and relatives whom she adored, including her special friend Larry Hughes of New York.
Evelyn was proceeded in death by her mother Luvenia Johnson, her father Rev. Spencer Johnson; sister, Rachel Mahoney; Brothers, Ualey Williams, J.B. Williams, N.Z Williams, and her nephew Darryl Mahoney.
