Jan 8, 1933 — Nov 15, 2022
George "BJ" Benjamin
George "BJ" Benjamin, 89, was born on January 8, 1933, to Sherman Benjamin, Sr., and Daran Thompson. He was the youngest of three boys.
A lifelong resident of Monticello, "BJ" attended the schools of Jefferson County. While attending Harvest Christian Center, he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, under the leadership of Reverend Marvin Graham.
"BJ" loved spending time with his family. He spent several hours of the day sitting on his porch and befriending anyone that passed by. He was true friend to his neighborhood. He loved playing the lottery; acquiring a lottery scratch off ticket always put a big smile on "BJ's" face.
On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, God in his infinite wisdom saw fit to summoned "BJ" home for eternal rest. Those left to cherish and celebrate his fond memories are: his daughters, Rosa Thompson (Alphonso Macon) and Carolyn Dykes, both of Monticello, FL; daughter-in-law, Danita Bright of Pensacola, FL; sister-in-law, Ollie Mae Benjamin; grandchildren, Ronnie L. Green, Jr., James W. Thompson, Jr., James Jones, Jr., Lawrence Thomas III, Charles Benjamin, Jr., Karon Green, Arena (Stanley) Hill, Denise Thompson, Portia Jones, Latasha Benjamin, and Justice Barrington; a host of great-grandchildren; special nieces, Catherine Benjamin and Ernestine Gainous; goddaughters, Stephanie (Edward) Bellamy, Sarah Campbell and Ava Montalavo; special granddaughters and caretakers, Letitia Fead, Shana Williams and Melissa Harris and all the staff at Brynwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
Those who preceded "BJ" in death were his wife, Rebecca "Kidd" Benjamin; parents, Sherman Benjamin, Sr., and Daran Thompson; sons, Charles Benjamin, Sr., and John Bright; daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Dykes Green and Ronnie L. Green, Sr.; and brothers, Sherman Benjamin, Jr., and Bennie Benjamin.
