Obituary

JaNylah Nemarii Shaw was born on November 8, 2007 to Jerron N. Shaw and Shamere P. Reddick-Shaw at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She was the oldest of their two children and their only daughter.

JaNylah, who was so lovingly called "Nylah", was raised in Tallahassee, Florida, where she was educated in the Leon County School District. She was a freshman in the 2026 graduating class of Lincoln High and an honor roll student. JaNylah was a member of the orchestra program, where she played the violin, the student government association (SGA), the French club, and the culinary arts club. JaNylah had a goal of becoming a nurse after graduation; she had already started receiving invites to nursing summer programs.

Outside of school, JaNylah remained active in her community through church and other organizations; she was never shy when it came to trying new ideas. She was a youth member at Prayer Temple COGIC, where she recently joined the usher board as a junior usher. JaNylah also volunteered as a kids' ministry leader in the Freedom Church Assemblies of God. She was an active member of the Florida Northwest Jurisdiction AIM Department and sang in the youth choir. She was instrumental in helping the Prayer Temple Bible Bowl Team win second place in the 2022 Bible Bowl Competition. In the 7th grade, she became a member of Betty Shabazz Academy and made the transition to Delta GEMS in the 9th grade.

JaNylah's greatest joy was being a big sister to her brother Josiah. Nylah and Josiah were best friends and had their own way of doing life together. She protected him, guided him, cherished him, and simply unconditionally loved him. JaNylah had a desire to have a dog, and she finally convinced her parents to bring Charlie into their lives. Although Charlie was the family dog, she ultimately belonged to Nylah. She wanted everyone to be happy, so she did her part to bring laughter into our lives. She loved with all her heart; Charlie was also a recipient of that strong love.

JaNylah enjoyed many activities during her time with us. One of her biggest passions was shopping for shoes, Jordans in particular. Playing the Xbox, watching anime, and making videos on TikTok were some of her favorite hobbies. JaNylah loved family dinners, game nights, and all holidays. She was the highlight of every group message that she was a part of. She had a great love for a lot of foods, but her absolute favorite was macaroni and cheese. Nylah loved to travel and visit places like Disney, Universal Studios, and the beach. She was fortunate to have visited New York and the Bahamas, among many other destinations. JaNylah thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with her friends, going to the movies, and going out to eat, especially at her favorite restaurant, Horizons. JaNylah enjoyed attending church conventions like the Florida Northwest Jurisdictional AIM Convention and FORWARD conference, along with youth rallies and other conventions. At these events, she was able to meet new people and form new friendships.

Through her personality, spirit, and her big, beautiful smile, JaNylah was able to illustrate a life of serenity to all those that came to know her. She enjoyed life, her family members, and many friends. In her own words, she was "grateful for her big village." JaNylah was always there to brighten the lives of others in her very own cheerful, caring, fun, and joyful way. On Friday, March 10, 2023, JaNylah's life of light suddenly ended as she transitioned into eternal rest.

JaNylah will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Shamere Reddick-Shaw and Jerron Nigel Shaw; her little brother, Josiah Shaw; her pet dog, Charlie; grandparents, Brenda and Claude Davis, and Joseph "Chuck" and Tonya Reddick; great-grandparents: Frank and Jewel Atkins, Etta Brinson, and Julia Jenkins; aunts, Shannon, JaMeisha (George), Rachael, D'Yanna, Aleah, Tiffany (Alton), and LaShanda; uncles, Brent (Amy), DeVonte, and Eddie (Christine); godparents, Ferman and Ardesta Richardson, Akeba Cummings, and Lyle Ottley; god siblings, Delmeyauntae "Tre" Footman, Faith, Ferman II, Faydra, and Felisa Richardson, Jolynn, and Blake "Beejee" Cummings. JaNylah also leaves a host of great aunts, great uncles, cousins, church family, extended family, friends, and classmates. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Geraldine Shaw.
