Obituary

JAY GENE SLOAN was born on March 7th, 1942 in Iola, Kansas. Jay attended school in La Harpe Kansas.  His class was so small that all the guys in his class had to play every sport to have a complete team.  He was on the football team, the baseball team and the basketball team.

As a young child, Jay would often go into the woods hunting squirrels with his bow and arrow set.   Once he caught a few he would head back home with his catch to show his mother.  It was later revealed that his dog, Rowdy, did most of the work and he would take the credit.

In his adulthood, the company Jay worked for in Kansas sent him to Florida for work.  When he stepped off the plane, he liked the weather so much he decided to make Florida his home.
Jay really loved his family.  He was always available to help whenever a need arose.  If it meant buying a car, fixing a car, giving a ride, providing a job, home repairs, or just barbecuing a delicious meal and inviting you over to eat.
Jay loved camping and fishing.  Fishing was his passion.  He loved riding his motorcycle until an injury left him unable to do so. Jay had a great talent for building and for working on vehicles.  He built tables for a Sunday School class, he created wooden puzzles as presents, he often built furniture for his home and others.   He helped with many family homes, by adding on rooms and or remodeling.  He was often called up whenever a family or friends' car was in need of repair.
Jay had a hobby that he enjoyed.  He liked to take old used bikes and refurbish them for Christmas gifts to local children.
He also loved antique cars.  He never passed up an opportunity to stop and check out car shows, whether planned or just by driving down the road. Jay was a devoted FSU fan.
On December 16, 2020 Jay passed away peacefully in his home in Crawfordville, Florida. His survivors include: his loving wife of 36 years, Lynda; his two daughters, Gayla and Reca; his three stepchildren, Kelli, Frankie and Donnie; his two sisters. Evelyn and Mary Jo; his seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren to cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa.
The family would like to convey heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Covenant Care Hospice for the Love and Support they showed during the time of need for Jay and His Family. They displayed indescribable compassion, humility, and reverence.
