Roosevelt Wilson , son of the late Arthur Wilson, Sr. and Rosa Lee Smith Wilson, was born in Leon County on Wednesday, August 22, 1945.

Roosevelt, better known as "Whip," grew up in the Greater Miccosukee Community of eastern Leon County. Growing up in a large family, he was always surrounded by his siblings. Roosevelt attended the public schools of Leon County.

At an early age, Roosevelt professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee (Miccosukee), Florida. One of The Brightside Gospel Singers' original founding members, Roosevelt, was well known for his distinctive bass vocals. For many years, Roosevelt was employed at Bradley's Country Store. He cherished his family, enjoyed fishing, and was a loyal fan of Florida State Seminoles. One of his daily pleasures was driving to the lake to feed the stray cats.

On September 25, 1970, Roosevelt married the love of his life Barbara Johnson Wilson.

Surrounded by his family, Roosevelt peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

Roosevelt's love and memories will linger forever in the hearts of his devoted wife of 52 years: Barbara Wilson; loving children: Gloria Mitchell, Timothy (Jenise) Wilson, Terrance (Sherry) Wilson, Ronnie (Idabell) Wilson, Roosevelt Wilson Jr., and Rodney (Michelle) Wilson; 23 grandchildren: Cornelius (Courtney) Mitchell, Dekia Mitchell, Comelius Mitchell, Shaquille Mitchell, Deontae Mitchell, Darius Wilson, Nichelle Wilson, Malcolm Wilson, Tedra Wilson, April Wilson, Terrance Wilson Jr., Rhondreaka Nathan, Ronquera Wilson, Querstin Wilson, Jasmine Wilson, Ronnie Wilson II, Kwanisha Jones, Mercedes Wilson, Rodney Wilson Jr., Zion Wilson, and Zykeria Wilson; 36 great-grandchildren; siblings: Marie Davis, Joseph Wilson Sr. (Christine), Sam (Gladys) Wilson, Clevor Dale Wilson, Elder Jimmy (Felicia) Wilson, Tommy (Mildred) Wilson, and Mary Wilson; brothers-in-law: George Johnson, Dennis Johnson, and Jimmy Jackson; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Roosevelt was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Rosa Lee Wilson; grandson: Freddie; siblings: Elnora, Eddie Lee, Emily, Arthur Jr., Johnnie, Grace, George, Ella Mae, and Robert.
