Samuel Lee Johnson was born in Monticello, Florida on September 7, 1958, to the late Johnny C. and Mattie Lee Kebby Johnson.

Samuel was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System. After thirteen years of service, he retired from the City of Monticello.

At an early age, Samuel accepted Christ.  Later, he developed a deep devotion to Praise and Worship at the Barrel under the leadership of Reverend Gloria A. Cox where he remained until his demise. Walking and conversing with friends and family were two of Samuel's favorite pastimes. He was known for getting up before sunrise and returning home before sunset.

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, Samuel Lee Johnson entered into eternal rest.

His legacy will always be cherished by his daughter, Natasha Byrd; brothers: Henry Johnson and Johnny Johnson, Jr.; sisters: Susie Mae Watkins, Lucille Seabrooks, Jacqueline Johnson, and Janie Johnson; and, best friends: Terry Crumity and Henry Cooks. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank Johnson, Mary Lee Williams, Melvin Jean Nealy, and Julia Malone.
