Campbell
Jun 3, 1953 — Jan 28, 2025
Saundra Mathis Campbell
Saundra Joan Mathis Campbell was born on Wednesday, June 3, 1953, to the late John Mathis, Jr. and Minnie Lee Williams Mathis. She was raised in Jefferson County, Florida's Lamont (Capps) Area.
Saundra graduated from Jefferson County High School and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. She then went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She loved caring for the sick and singing. For many years, Saundra worked at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and Capital Regional Hospital, where she retired from both. She also served as nurse for Tillman Funeral Home for numerous years. Never one to be idle, she served as a private duty nurse in the home health field in her later years.
Saundra was converted and baptized at an early age. She found joy serving as a deaconess at her home church, Welaunee Missionary Baptist Church. Saundra was well known for singing with several gospel groups, including The Gospel Jubilees, The Highway Travelers, and the Gospel Cavalier Singers. One of her most notable songs was "Sending Up My Timber."
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Saundra gently accepted the Master's Call and went Home to be with the Lord.
Saundra leaves to cherish her legacy of love her sons: Derrick (Avery) Alexander of Thomasville, GA and Shane (Lattasha) King of Macon, GA; her daughter, Saunt'a Perry of Monticello, FL; a host of grandchildren; four siblings: Harold Mathis, Sr. of Fort Belvoir, VA, Gregory Mathis of Houston, TX, Ronald Mathis of Monticello, FL, and Aundra Mathis of Philadelphia; and a host of other family and friends.
Saundra is preceded in death by her parents and brother Eugene Rogers Williams.
