Walter Wendell Ross

Walter Wendell Ross was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1964, in Monticello, Florida, to his loving parents, Mae Louise Johnson Pompey and Waddie Ross, Sr.

During his formative years, Walter was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Rebecca and Sam Johnson, in Monticello, Florida.

Affectionately known as “Walt,” he received his education through the public schools of Jefferson County, where he was a member of the cross-country distance team. He proudly graduated with the Jefferson County High School Class of 1982.

Walt was a faithful member of Capitola Church of God of Prophecy. His commitment to his faith and church family was demonstrated through his many years of service as a Deacon under the leadership of his aunt, Pastor Rebecca Ross.

Professionally, Walt was a certified brick mason; however, he discovered his true passion and calling in the irrigation industry. He enjoyed installing and servicing irrigation systems and, through years of dedication, experience, and hard work, became a skilled Irrigation Specialist. Walt devoted more than 40 years to the profession and was a proud co-owner of Quality Irrigation.

When he was not working, Walt enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Some of his favorite pastimes included watching National Geographic and Animal Planet. He also loved spending time in the kitchen cooking and preparing meals.

Surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, Walt peacefully gained his wings, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories.

Though Walt’s earthly journey has come to an end, the memories he created and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Alisha Holden Ross; daughter, Erika (Marvin) Ross-Johnson; sons, Cedric and Evan Ross; mother, Mae L. Pompey; granddaughters, Arianna and Makayla Ross and Khiara Davis; grandsons, Isaiah Smith, Jeremiah Ross, and Alijah Mears; sisters, Glenda Pompey, Darline (Kenny) Brockman, and Daisy (Karl) Slater; brothers, Delvon T. Pompey, Waddie (Tabitha) Ross, Jr., Charles Ross, John Ross, and Tyrone Ross; his uncle, John F. Johnson, who was like a brother and friend to him; aunts, Pastor Rebecca (Willie) Ross, Zola (Chester) Leonard, Shirley Gibson, Bettye Johnson, and Inez Burns; a close cousin, Sharon Ross, whom he regarded as a sister; and the loving and devoted mothers of his children, Linda D. Ross and Debra L. Marryshow; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Walt was preceded in death by his father, Waddie Ross, Sr.; a brother, Wendrez Ross; paternal grandparents, Walter and Daisy Ross; his maternal grandparents, Sam & Rebecca Johnson; step-mother, Juanita Parrish-Ross; step-father, William Pompey; and his mother-in-law, Nellie Williams.
